Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR ),The Director of Noguchi Memorial Prof. Kwadwo A. Koram has cautioned to don’t host AFCON Ghana against entertaining the idea of hosting the 2015 (AFCON)African Cup of Nations as the Ebola death toll rises.
Don’t host AFCON because the deadly virus spreading in some West African countries, Morocco (the initial host country) has notified the continental football body CAF that if it is postponed then can only host the tournament.
From the Ebola virus about 4,500 persons have died , according to the World Health Organization in Nigeria , Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea,. Disease infects humans through close contact with infected persons, animals including fruit bats , forest antelope and chimpanzees.
In 2017 Ghana which is bidding to organize the tournament, is precariously considering staging the orphaned tournament in 2015.
Despite the threat of Ebola ,Mahama Ayariga(Youth and Sports Minister) stated that Ghana is ready to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January 2015.
Prof. Kwadwo A. Koram(current Director of the NMIMR) a renowned epidemiologist, told Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile, for any Ebola outbreak country is not prepared so don’t host AFCON
